CAM Spotlight:

Spend the Holidays at CAM!

Join us and spend the holidays at CAM with special holiday events, performances, family activities, live music and more that will be sure to get everyone in to the holiday spirit.


Visit CAM on Wednesday, November 30 with Holiday Coffee with Shop Artists. This FREE event is an opportunity to meet the various artists that sell their unique gifts in CAM’s Museum Shop. Gingerbread cookies and coffee will be served. 


On Friday, December 2 we open Illumination 2022 with an opening night party 6 to 9 pm to celebrate this popular annual exhibition of artist-made lanterns. CAM Cafe will be offering light bites and cocktails and the band Neighbro will be playing a set of 1960s tunes. Tickets are available HERE.


On Saturday, December 3 CAM hosts Clyde’s Holiday By the Sea presented by Excite Credit Union. The museum invites the whole family to help decorate sea critters to add to CAM’s Holiday by the Sea installation, which will remain on display around Minnie Evans gate house through the holiday season. Get into the holiday spirit with CAM’s Holiday Open House Thursday, December 8 Enjoy hot chocolate and treats from CAM Café as visitors can check out the latest unique holiday gifts in CAM’s Museum Shop. Plus Museum membership and museum gift cards will be available for sale making a perfect gift for the art lover in your life. This is a FREE event.

Minnie Evans Birthday Celebration Sunday, Dec 11

Celebrate Minnie Evans’ Birthday with us Sunday, December 11 with family activities, a special performance and an exclusive first look at a new documentary about Minnie and her work. Visit and take in a gallery filled with Minnie’s work now on display at part of 60+. Events free with museum admission.


The holiday celebration continues into the New Year as we present our annual Floating Lanterns Ceremony on January 8, 2023. CAM’s Floating Lantern celebration is a FREE event that offers the community a beautiful expression of remembrance, reflection and gratitude. The museum is selling lantern sleeves for $12 now at the front desk that can be decorated to honor loved ones and then set adrift in CAM’s Reflection Pond at dusk. Live music, hot chocolate, beverages and treat from CAM Cafe will make it an evening to remember!


We are also hosting several musical events throughout December. These Sounds for the Season include: Jazz at CAM with Ernest Turner Trio on Thursday, December 1 at 7 pm, the Wilmington Symphony Youth Orchestra: The Tritones at CAM on Sunday, December 4 at 2 pm, the Wilmington Chamber Orchestra on Thursday, December 15 at 7 pm and Wilmington Voices Holiday Choral Performance Sunday, December 18 at 3 pm. Floating Lantern Ceremony

Lanterns Sleeves: $12 available now at CAM Visitor Services

 

We all have individual reasons to create our own Floating Lantern . . . to honor someone who is a dear friend, to memorialize a cherished family member or treasure a special moment experienced during the year. Visit CAM on January 8 and join others at CAM’s Reflection Pond in an expression of Remembrance, Reflection and Gratitude. There is no charge to attend the Floating Lantern Ceremony and CAM's exhibitions will be free admission all day. Live music near the pond and hot chocolate, beverages and light food service available from CAM Café.

 

Lantern Sleeves are available for purchase now! Gathering with friends or family over Thanksgiving? It’s a great time to decorate your lantern sleeve and be ready for the Floating Lantern Ceremony on January 8, 2022. Lantern sleeves are on sale now at CAM Visitor Services for $12 ($15 on January 8).

Revel in the artistry and light of Cameron Art Museum’s 8th annual exhibition of artist-made lanterns. Thirty-six lighted sculptures will be on display in Studio 1 through January 15, 2023. The winners for 3 cash prizes totaling $1500 will be announced in the evening but everyone can cast their vote in the People’s Choice awards. Live entertainment sets the tone for the opening night while you enjoy festive drinks and light food service (available for purchase) from CAM Café.

It's a great yet simple way to save special photos. Our process will be to make an accordion fold book with colorful papers and fill the pages with your photocopied pictures. We will explore ways to make our books unique and personal with cutouts and embellishments.
