We are proud to present Rising Stars, a student art exhibition organized in collaboration with high schools in the eight-country radius in Southeastern NC that the museum serves. Opening February 1, this new month-long exhibition showcases the exceptional talent of Eastern North Carolina high school students and highlights the promise of the newest generation of artists.
CAM’s Education Team has worked with art educators in Brunswick, Columbus, Duplin, New Hanover, Onslow, Pender, and Sampson counties to organize this exhibition that reflects CAM’s commitment to supporting young artists and engaging the broader community in the creative process.
To celebrate the opening of Rising Stars, CAM is offering FREE museum admission to everyone on Saturday, February 1. CAM’s Education Team will offer participants gallery tours and activities on opening weekend. Tours for participating families and students will be held from 11 AM-2 PM on Saturday, February 1st.
Additionally, students can stop by the Collaboration Station to create and exchange Artist Trading Cards with their peers, fostering connections and celebrating artistic community. Free museum admission is offered to all participating artists and their families throughout the run of the exhibition.

Thomas Sayre: Four Walls
Thomas Sayre: Four Walls features new and never exhibited works by American artist Thomas Sayre (American, b. 1950). Each of the four large-scale pieces installed in Cameron Art Museum’s Hughes Wing engage the belief systems and symbols that underpin the ideals of church, nation, and creation. Made of materials that include tar, smoke, fabric gowns, gunshots, welding material, earth and fire, these works invite visitors to draw close and experience the messiness of making, and by analogy, to bear witness to the ways that life invades, entangles, and tarnishes us. Elisabeth Chant (February 7, 2025 – April 27, 2025) North Carolina artist Elisabeth Chant (1865-1947) made an indelible mark on Wilmington’s art community. She became known for her vibrant landscapes and scenes of the North Carolina coast. Chant also created decorative designs and explored mysticism and spiritual themes, which informed her artistic style. She was instrumental in developing Wilmington’s cultural landscape, founding art classes, mentoring young artists, and establishing a community art association. This exhibition explores the people and landscapes of Chant’s world. |

ASIAN PAPER MANIPULATION–MOMIGAMI & JOOMCHI Instructor: Jan Wutkowski Asian mulberry papers have special properties that Western papers do not. These properties allow us to manipulate them into very strong pieces for arts & crafts projects. Momigami is the process of crushing kozo papers while also adding a natural strengthening agent. Hanji papers will be ‘felted’ into Joomchi, a cloth- or leather-like product. Both processes allow you to create remarkably strong and beautifully delicate-looking pieces. It's not paper making. Friday, February 7, 1-4 PM, Saturday, February 8, 10 AM – 4 PM and Sunday Feb 9, 10 AM – 3 PM Adult: All Levels CAM Member $148. Not-yet member $185 Click Here for Supply Information and to Learn More |
