Artist Talk with Cornelio Campos

Thursday, August 17, 2023, 6 PM

CAM Members: $16;

Not-Yet Members: $20

Cornelio Campos is a self-taught Mexican-American artist based in Durham, NC. Mr. Campos immigrated to the United States from Mexico as a teenager—a journey and process that now influence many of his paintings. Vibrant colors, iconic American symbols, and intricate geometric patterns define Mr. Campos’s work. Through his paintings, he illustrates some of the harsh realities of immigrating to America that immigrants often overlook. Moreover, he highlights deep-seated political issues that contribute to Mexican immigration, including the implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Double the Plate, Double the Fun! Drypoint and Monotype

Instructor: Donna Moore and Antionette Vogt

Incorporating the two techniques of Drypoint and Monotype leads to unique and interesting works of art. In this one day workshop students use two plates to create one image. First a repeatable image is created on a drypoint plate. Using your own original drawing/photo or one provided, images can be easily traced onto the clear acrylic plate. A second process called a monotype adds color. Students experiment with color mixing and layering, incorporating stencils, and creating textures. Both plates are printed on top of each other to create the final one-of-a-kind image. Work abstractly or realistically, no experience needed. Experiment and have fun, the possibilities are endless!
