CAM Exhibition Spotlight:

Teaching / Creating

OpensTomorrow!

Teaching/Creating a new exhibition of work by CAM’s Museum School instructors opens tomorrow, March 1 in the museum’s Studio One gallery. All mediums will be represented and on view through April 2.

Teaching / Creating not only showcases works by an incredibly talented group of artists, but also informs the public about the level of talent available to them through the Museum School’s ongoing classes and workshops

Participating artists: Renato Abbate, Ben Billingsley, Todd Carignan, Judith Chandler, Karen Chevrotee, Alan Cradick, Sherrill Farley, Carolyn Faulkner, Jane DelRosso-Freach, Shannon Gehen, Amy Gibson, Jeri Greenberg, Brooks Koff, Anne McCombie, Donna Moore, Oyla Nik, Susan Nuttall, Kirah Van Sickle, Catherine Cross Tsintzos, and Antoinette Vogt.

The museum will celebrate the opening of Teaching/Creating with an opening reception on Saturday, March 4 at 11 am.

Many of the artists will be in attendance and the community is invited to hear directly from them as well as learn more about CAM’s Museum School programs.

“Our teaching artists are masters in their medium who find joy in sharing their knowledge with others.  Each instructor cares about technique and process, but they also want students to discover something about themselves through the course.  Their creativity and dedication to the Museum School helps to continually grow our art community.” - September Krueger

CAM Collection Update

Museum Acquires work by Alison Saar

We are thrilled to announce the acquisition of Reapers, 2021 by Alison Saar to CAM’s ever-growing permanent collection.

This work by Saar was among several works presented to the museum’s Compass Leadership Level Membership Group at a special acquisition event held at the museum on Wednesday, February 22.

At the event, the Compass group enjoyed cocktails and dinner from CAM Cafe as museum staff presented various works that were nominated for acquisition. They ultimately selected Reapers, 2021 to join CAM’s core collection of works on paper.

Juan Logan with Michael S. Williams

Thursday, March 9, 2023, 6 PM

CAM Members: $15;

Not-Yet Members: $20

Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Juan Logan now lives and works in Belmont, North Carolina. Logan’s artworks address subjects relevant to the American experience. At once abstract and representational, his paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, and videos address the interconnections of race, place, and power. They make visible how hierarchical relations and social stereotypes shape individuals, institutions, and the material and mental landscapes of contemporary life.

Michael S. Williams is about fostering community. He spent 15 years in media at The News & Observer where, among several roles, he was the curator of ArtsNowNC.com and managing editor of the triangle.com and Triangle Today publications.
