A new venture, Liberty And Justice For All, asks for your help in reaffirming American institutions against those who distort American history, work to silence those with opposing views through intimidation and violence, and advocate tearing down civil society. The group invites others to join them by signing and sharing their open letter that calls for conserving and reforming American institutions in light of enduring principles of justice.

Our continuing series at RealClearEducation looks this week at how the Bill of Rights Institute educates teachers and students in the principles of free government. In light of Constitution Day this Thursday, Sept. 17, BRI is offering resources to teachers including lesson plans and a live webinar from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that explores the theme “United We Stand.”

Justin Lee writes about Nikole Hannah-Jones, the lead writer of the New York Times’ 1619 Project, and her efforts to reframe American history by viewing slavery as America’s defining feature. Lee argues that the 1619 Project teaches a “Manichaean vision of reality” that pits whites against blacks and puts forward a “tragically self-defeating” view of U.S. history.

John Yoo looks at what could happen if neither President Trump nor Joe Biden achieve the 270 necessary votes in the Electoral College to win the presidency. If the current House must make the choice, President Trump looks to win because “the Constitution requires that the House choose the president by voting as state delegations” rather than a simple majority. But another scenario in which a new House—which the Constitution seats on Jan. 3—chooses the president could put Joe Biden in the White House.

At RealClearPublicAffairs, Michael Warren discusses the important work of Patriot Week, which he founded 10 years ago due to the lack of national celebrations honoring America in the current civics calendar. From Sept. 11 to Sept. 17, Patriot Week focuses on “what unites us as Americans, why we should celebrate what we have achieved, and why we should continue to strive to create a stronger country—goals that are rooted in the promise of the Declaration of Independence.”
