Energy Realism this past week hit on the obvious shortcomings of wind power and why bipartisanship and pragmatism must rule the day.

Craig Rucker got us started last week: reality check, while already struggling because of rising costs, terrible profit margins, and simply being unreliable, even from an environmental perspective, offshore wind power offers “illusory benefits.” Advocates claim offshore wind is clean and sustainable. Wind certainly is, but that does not mean getting energy from wind is. That immediately brings us to our Essential Reading this week from the great Gordon Hughes. We have known for years that wind power is naturally less reliable and more expensive that greens love to claim. When taxpayers know the truth about the subsidies that wind turbines have attracted, they will not be at all comfortable that their hard-earned income is being spent in such a wasteful way.

Indeed, Dave Schryver outlines why we need pragmatic energy policies for an affordable, reliable, and cleaner energy system. And once again, we get details on why natural gas must remain the centerpiece strategy moving forward. But, our policymakers must help; and they must do their jobs. Ron Brisé realizes why our country requires regulatory certainty. He looks at Connecticut, which has been in the news recently for electric utilities in making the necessary investments to help strengthen the grid against potential outages. Andrew Reagan then gives his similar take on Joe Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act. We have seen some good things but there are also some gaps to be filled. First, of course, is permitting: let’s Make America Build Again.
