Energy Realism brought a different point of view last week: the need for more alternatives to reduce emissions and fight climate change. Roy Mathews got us started: Hibbing, Minnesota and Cameron, Louisiana couldn’t be more different. Located over 1,000 miles apart from one another in opposite climates, these towns both reflect the real impact which President Biden’s energy fiats have on communities depending on jobs in the energy sector. But Andrew Regan does see hope on clean energy progress. Especially since the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, the U.S. is seeing historic levels of investment in domestic clean energy manufacturing, jobs, and savings. They’re supporting our economy and energy independence while combating climate change. Along these same lines, Tom Hassenboehler argues for more hydrogen. The U.S. Treasury Department has the critical task of providing project developers with guidance on the clean hydrogen production tax credit, or Section 45V of the Inflation Reduction Act. This incentive, if implemented correctly, will help the U.S. achieve impactful greenhouse gas emissions reductions through the deployment of clean hydrogen in a variety of end uses. We’re going to need a lot more of all this. Rev. Mitch Hescox gives us an update on climate change. We know the temperature is rising. Last year was the hottest on record, and 2024 may result in an average temperature that surpasses the 1.5o C threshold considered the limit to avoid catastrophic damage. It’s time for Congress to establish market-based policies that address carbon pollution here in the U.S. and ensure our policies force other high-polluting nations to do the same.
