Energy Realism looked at the dangers of policies that block fossil fuel development. It really is obvious why: fossil fuels supply 80% of our energy.

Bernard Weinstein got us started last week: Colorado is apparently and dangerously trying to be like California. You know how the saying goes – if it’s not broken don’t fix it. But the state of Colorado is walking a thin line as it considers several pieces of legislation that stand to severely curtail its booming oil and natural gas industry and workforce. Vijay Jayaraj realizes the dangers of such anti-oil and -gas policies, and the goal of greens to push such regressive ideas globally. Guyana President Irfaan Ali is the latest leader of a developing nation to publicly note the hypocrisy of those pressuring countries like his to forego wealth in pursuit of a “green” agenda. In a fiery response to a BBC interviewer’s questioning of Guyana’s “right” to emit carbon dioxide in developing $150 billion of oil and gas reserves, President Ali questioned the reporter’s “right to lecture us on climate change. I will lecture you on climate change.”

The reality, as Josh Trott makes clear, is that the world today needs stable and affordable energy more than ever. And that begins with the world’s oil and gas powerhouse: the U.S. Our Essential Reading this week reminds us of the U.S. fracking boom and what it has meant for the world.
