Energy Realism last week focused on energy-climate policy and why all that glitters isn't...

Jonathan Lesser got us started last week: I mean, seriously, do green energy subsidies even work? Like the Jeopardy! game show, green energy subsidies have been Congress’ answer to every energy policy question. With the country deeply in debt, wasting hundreds of billions of dollars on subsidies for green energy, as the Inflation Reduction Act calls for, is an idea whose time is long past. But to be sure, wind and solar power have a growing but limited role to play. Purvi Patel reminds us, however, just how much more transmission we are going to need to bring larger amounts of renewables onto the grid. In addition, as extreme weather events and energy demands escalate, the strain on our power grid has never been more apparent. With the introduction of FERC's Order 1920 and the new Energy Permitting Reform Act, it is evident policymakers are responding to the urgent need for a more efficient and robust transmission system to ensure reliability. And finally, Trisha Curtis gives us the ultimate reality check: the current administration, while not destroying U.S. shale as both Harris and Biden once promised, has not helped it either. Today, we have American ingenuity and the U.S. shale sector — not the government — to thank for record oil and gas production and greater national and global energy security. Enjoy the debate tonight!
