Energy Realism last week focused on the the value of energy, and ensuring that our energy supply is low-cost and reliable.

Matthew Roy got us started last week: we better be very careful of the green energy dream that obviously installs higher cost, less reliable energy. We take for granted that energy is the lifeblood of the economy. It is the basic good that powers all human activity. Everything from transportation, agriculture, manufacturing, to technology, relies on energy in its various forms. Access to affordable energy not only enables a modern standard of living, it is absolutely fundamental to matters of economy and state security. Here, we must highlight the new report and our accompanying op-ed from Power The Future. In short, the reality is that the green dream, i.e., picking energy winners and losers with policy, has led to a horrific and sad waste of money. Indeed, Nate Scherer brings us home: the vast majority of environmental regulations do about nothing for the climate but they do increase the price of just about everything for American consumers. For example, most large population centers rely on many different forms of energy to meet their needs. Bans on gas appliances, straws, and plastic bags will not change consumer preferences, but they will deprive them of choice.
