Energy Realism last week discussed some major benefits of practical energy policy and the Trump tariffs. In fact, these are benefits that even Greens should be celebrating.

Isaac Orr and Mitch Rolling got us started last week: President Trump ran for office on the promise that he would “terminate” the subsidies for wind and solar in the so-called Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) because these sources of electricity are unreliable, expensive, and only built because of taxpayer subsidies. The House’s reconciliation bill delivers. Hopefully, the Senate follows suit because the time for “phasing out” wind and solar subsidies is over. The “Big Beautiful Bill” must end them now. Indeed, Will Morefield wants us as a nation to look toward Virginia for guidance on energy policy. The state offers America a practical example of how energy communities can lead the way in innovation and resilience, as Southwest Virginia in particular offers a playbook for American energy growth. With the help of new technology and investments, the coal and natural gas industries are creating pathways for growth in our communities – such as mine methane capture – revitalizing local economies, supporting jobs, and turning waste into valuable energy assets. To conclude, Melanie Collette gives us an interesting take on Trump’s tariffs. For all the buzz about “going green,” much of the technology touted by the Green Left to move our nation to “Net Zero” – specifically solar panels and EV batteries – comes from places where the sky is choked with smog and rivers run with industrial waste. And while these same critics often dismiss Donald Trump’s tariffs as economic saber-rattling, in reality, the President’s policies carry significant and underappreciated environmental benefits.
