Energy Realism this past week focused on Europe and the pushback on climate policies and higher cost energy. Naturally intermittent wind and solar energy are physically not capable of displacing dispatchable resources that are available on call.

Ed Longanecker reports on how U.S. LNG should be leveraged to save Europe from the firm grip of Russian energy. Environmentalists must realize that natural gas has provided certainty and energy accessibility to European consumers for decades. And today, gas is paving the way for evolving low-carbon technologies, such as by backing up wind and solar power. Based in Brussels, Dr. Lucas Bergkamp knows exactly why Europe has gotten itself into such an energy predicament. The climate movement has discovered criminal law as a tool for conducting climate politics. In pushing their agenda, these activists receive assistance from the judiciary - specifically, the European Court of Human Rights.

Vladimir Putin is surely smiling at all of this.

Somehow surprising to some, Europeans are now showing that they actually oppose the much higher energy prices that the climate obsession brings. Hans Rentsch explains why climate taxes are getting voted down even in the most climate-conscious European countries. The question: how can climate change advocates oppose nuclear power? Nuclear is non-carbon and our most reliable source of energy. Indeed, Dan Ervin brings what should be blatantly obvious to all of us: intermittent, non-dispatchable energy sources like wind and solar do not displace dispatchable ones like coal, gas, and nuclear. In short, renewables are supplemental not alternative, and we ignore that fact at our own peril.
