| Knitting season is around the corner!
Autumn has always been my favorite season of the year. In childhood, it meant going back to school (yes, I was that kid who liked school), visiting the local cider mill for freshly pressed cider and hot doughnuts, and eventually escaping the heat and humidity of Michigan summers. Those thrills have never gone away. In fact, during the eight years I lived in Southern California, the fall months always disappointed because the weather didnât change! And by that point in my life, I had discovered knitting and handspinning, so the constant warmth didnât provide many opportunities to cuddle up in a big wool sweater.
Thatâs what fall means to me now: serious knitting time with my best-loved yarns and types of projects. Read more!

| Color Knitting: The Cactus Blossom Sweater
When I came across Kate Jacksonâs Cactus Blossom Pullover, I was struck again by how beautiful it is; just lovely color knitting. Iâd wanted to knit this pattern since I first saw it in the magazine, but hadnât yet (you know how that goesâso many patterns, so little time!).
This sweater is a great pattern for an advanced beginning knitter who's willing to take a chance on an easy colorwork project. Itâs worked entirely in the round, knit from the bottom up, with incredibly easy colorwork patterns to work into the yoke and the sleeves. And if youâre a sweater knitter already, this is a super fast project.
The technique used is what I like to call "faux isle." You work with a solid color and a self-striping color, and the self-striping yarn does all the work! You can see in the photo how it ends up looking like there are lots of different colored yarns used in the yoke section, but really there are just two! Magic. Read more!

How to Fix a Dropped Stitch at the End of a Row Here's a knitting disaster of epic proportions: My needle slid out of the first stitch, and it dropped down several rows. This has never happened to me before, so I wasnât sure what to do with all of those loops (besides saying âOH NO!!!â really loud).
I was so flummoxed that I missed the âteachable momentâ aspect of the problem, I just focused on fixing it! I didnât even take a âbeforeâ photo of the chaos. I forgot about you, dear Knitting Daily readers, and how you would want to be part of my process. So I've recreated it for you. Read more!

Pro-Tip: Kitchen Gadgets as Blocking Aids
Blocking knitting can be a pain, and depending on the project, it can take up a lot of space, not to mention a lot of time. Did you know you could block small projects with the help of a salad spinner? Thatâs right, one of my favorite kitchen tools has now become one of my favorite knitting blocking tools. Hereâs a video from our Interweave Yarn Hacks series to show you how to block knitting with a salad spinner. Check it out!
