COMING SUNDAY:

Shelby Liston, 79, a former Hampton VA employee has a stash of old photos, memorabilia and historical records from the Old Soldiers Home, a hospital for Black Union soldiers that became the Hampton VA Medical Center. On Dec. 14, the facility will celebrate 150th years of service to veterans and its legacy. The VA will have on display several poster boards Liston put together that chronicle the history.

Â Many people think that the resistance to Confederate monuments and memorials is a new phenomenon that started in 2015 when a white supremacist massacred 9 African American parishioners in a South Carolina church. African Americans in particular have been trying to bring the monuments down since they started going up after the Civil War's end in 1865.
