MY READER REWARDS

We Love Our Subscribers!

It's ALREADY mid-November???  Yet just yesterday it was in the mid-80s and today we are feeling some of the effects of Hurricane Eta.  Enough with the rain already, right??  Meanwhile - we kind of, sort of officially know who the President will be for the next four years? Crazy times - we will leave that one alone for the time being.

Some how, some way Virginia continues to pace better than much of the rest of the country on the coronavirus front.  Cases are starting to grow again - just not nearly at the pace compared to most other areas of the country. Of course we here at Reader Rewards are convinced it is due to our constant refrain: wear a mask, keep six feet of distance and wash your hands often!  There - we got it out of the way for this week! Keep grinding at it folks! That vaccine is at least in sight now. All this too shall pass!

So you just want to know what is in store for contests this week, right?? For all those with Thanksgiving dinner prep in mind: Food Lion!  For more home decor, home maintenance, etc: Home Depot!  For those that just need that steak dinner for curbside pick up and or to be delivered: Outback Steakhouse!

COMING SUNDAY:

If you’ve been to a Chesapeake City Council meeting, chances are you’ve seen the body vote on the bread and butter of local government: approving dog grooming businesses, extending recycling contracts or funding the school district nutrition plan.

Here’s one thing you haven’t heard much of: dissenting votes.

In the past two years, council members have voted unanimously on 94% of agenda items, according to a Virginian-Pilot review of meeting minutes.

A Norfolk hospital says it has treated seven children with a serious health condition linked to the coronavirus -- more than half the number recorded statewide -- in the past six months. Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome, or MIS-C, affects various body parts and may cause problems with a child’s heart and other vital organs. Globally, a small number of patients with the disease have died. Though the illness is thought to be especially rare, it may be happening more frequently than the public has been led to believe.

  • Hampton's school board has put on a unified face throughout the pandemic. But the board has quietly fallen into chaos, unable to agree on the role of the board and how to communicate about reopening. Read more in Sunday's Main News section.

  • What happens on those baking competition shows anyway? LaShonda Sanford, who owns Scratch in Hampton Roads is competing on a Food Network reality show and shares the reality of what her life has been since competing. Read more in the Sunday Break section.

  • A review of Orion’s Roof will never begin with the food. It is the view, always the view, that will conscript your attention.

From the Roof’s penthouse aerie atop the Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront hotel — 183 feet and 23 stories above the water — the sprawling Cavalier Hotel across the street looks like a toy, a gingerbread house made for candy people. Diners at the east-facing windows might as well be perched on a beachside cliff. The compulsion to lose yourself in the roiling waters' abyss is surely primal.
