Welcome to the Reader Rewards weekly newsletter, where every now and then random thoughts and observations just happen to come out of thin air from yours truly. In the spirit of every day being the "National Day" of something/anything - oftentimes for multiple topics - did anyone notice that yesterday April 7th was both National Beer Day AND National No Housework Day?? The REAL question and observation is why couldn't they have landed on a weekend??

Ok, we just HAD to get that off our chest...

Well, we're officially into April here in Hampton Roads!  The time of year where a thin yet very noticeable layer of yellow dust coats EVERYTHING. Yes - pollen. This is as close as we'll get to complaining about it. Enough said, right? Besides - there's far more positive topics to appreciate!  Most of Hampton Roads is either in Phase 1c or in Phase 2 for COVID-19 vaccinations.  The Pilot's Elisha Sauers brought us news that the FEMA vaccination clinic at Military Circle Mall will start taking walk-ins. If you missed the story - check it out here. Think back to a full year ago today.  We've come A LONG WAY the last twelve months.

Another uplifting story to come about from tragedy, came from The Pilot's Saleen Martin earlier this week. If you missed Saleen's feature on the Virginia Beach woman that started restoring stuffed animals - click here to check it out. On the same day, The Pilot's Jeff Hampton brought us a feature on Marlin, the tabby cat that has made a name for himself down in the Outer Banks.  It is difficult to summarize the feature story - check it out here to do Marlin justice!

Well, effective July 1, 2021 - marijuana will be legal in Virginia.  Some may view this positively, some may view this negatively. Either way - yet more change.  The only constant over time IS change. The Pilot's Ana Ley brought update - check out her coverage here.

Ok, now the CONTESTS!  For quite some time now we've dreamed of a time when we can start running contests that involve actually going to events - or at least getting out!  While we KNOW you love our featured gift cards, there's nothing like getting back out and attending events or going places.

COMING SUNDAY:

The feeling first took hold at breakfast.

At the Pink Dinghy, a blush-colored ViBe district restaurant the approximate size and shape of a shoebox, it came halfway through one of the most singular egg sandwiches in Hampton Roads.

The Dinghy’s rendition is a parade of surprising Middle Eastern spice and ferment — including a spicy cilantro-coriander sauce from Yemen called zhoug — and of gently contrasting textures. The sandwich mixes crisply fresh shards of lettuce, butter-toasted bread with an edge of caramelization and airy chew within, and especially a lava flow of cheesy scrambled eggs with delicate softness you’d be more likely to find in France than Virginia Beach. By American standards, the eggs were a mere medium-rare.
