MY READER REWARDS

We Love Our Subscribers!

OK - we're BAAAAAAACK! Our apologies for an unexpected week off last week.  But as only as can happen here in 2020, Reader Rewards had a curveball or two thrown at us last week.  For those that attempted to enter contests last last couples weeks, thanks for your patience.  We're back this week with SIX contests for $50 gift cards.  More on that below.

So what exactly has gone on since our last newsletter?  Halloween came and went, we dialed our clocks back a full hour(as if any of us REALLY want to extend 2020 any longer than necessary) and then there was this little Presidential election "thing". When all is said and done, it looks like record voter turnout across Hampton Roads - so job well done by all of us that took the time to vote!  A special thanks to all the volunteers that staffed the polling locations and to all the staff that even as I write this here - are making sure ALL the ballots are counted.  We learned that both casino referendums passed - so there is a real possibility of one in both Norfolk and Portsmouth now.

Since our last newsletter, COVID-19 cases across the country have spike significantly; fortunately here in Hampton Roads and throughout much of Virginia - we've held mostly stready.  I'm sure it's because of our refrain here in the newsletter: wear a mask, keep six feet of distance and wash your hands frequently!

On the sports front - this week we learned that Governor Northam has given the "green light" for prep sports to resume come December.  A small step in the right direction.  Lastly on the sports front, everyone here avoided my newsletter celebration last week as a result of The Los Angeles Dodgers finally winning another World Series Championship.  If you've read this newsletter, you know yours truly here at Reader Rewards has an affinity for them and The Lakers. I know, I know - not local, but we all take our entertainment and small victories where we can get them nowadays!

Now, for your favorite part - yes the contests!  Since we skipped a week last week, we have a total of six(6) $50 gift cards we're giving away this week! This week we're featuring Lowe's, Bed Bath & Beyond, Amazon, Target, Long Horn Steakhouse and Olive Garden!  With a $50 gift card at Olive Garden - remember those bread sticks!

COMING SUNDAY:

Todd Corillo has worked at WTKR since 2012. He now sits at the anchor desk at the television station’s headquarters on Boush Street in Norfolk — a place his father, Glenn Corillo, called home for his career in TV broadcasting from 1978 to 1998..

“How cool that is to be sitting in the chair that Dad pioneered in this market,” Todd Corillo said.

Flashback more than four decades. Glenn Corillo was hired as the midnight to 5 a.m. disc jockey for WTAR Radio. He chose to be known as Glenn Corey for privacy reasons.

“Back then, people could look you up in the phone book and call to ask you anything,” he said with a smile.

 News flash: Plants are growing.

In particular, plant-based restaurants keep on popping up in Hampton Roads, mirroring a Gallup poll this year that showed one in four Americans trying to cut back on their meats.

In February, we covered a new surge of Black-owned vegan restaurants in the area, from the beautiful smoked portobello caps and chutney-topped fritters at Caribbean spot Desmond’s Island Soul Grill in Virginia Beach to the comfort fare at Newport News' Healthy Eatz and one of the area’s best BLTs, meat or no meat, at Beyond Vegan Cell Food in Portsmouth.
