Head to Las Palapas, a San Antonio Tex-Mex obsession, that got its start as a taco truck. Try their incredibly soft homemade tortillas and freshly made pico de gallo, or bite into the humongous, smothered Okie Burrito that draws in crowds from all over Texas.
Central Texas Meets Havana
Finally, I stop at the Pearland institution, Central Texas Style Barbecue. The mother-daughter operation serves up some of the juiciest BBQ in the state, but with a Cuban spin. While the tender brisket draws in the crowds, loyal customers come back for sides like the Spanish rice, spiced black beans and loaded baked potato.
