The Adweek 50: Media, Marketing and Tech Leaders Who Delivered the Goods Despite Trying Times
 

Each year, Adweek reveals the most indispensable execs from media, marketing and tech companies. This year's list features some well-known stars in the industry like Target's Rick Gomez, ViacomCBS' Jo Ann Ross and Disney's Rita Ferro. However, the Adweek 50 also contains breakout stars with long lists of accomplishments like Walmart's Suresh Kumar, who oversaw the deployment of 130 new features during the pandemic, and JiYoung Kim, who joined Carat earlier this year and helped the media agency build multiple tools that proved invaluable to clients during the Covid-19 crisis.

Judge Allows Downloads of TikTok to Continue, Halting Trump's App Store Ban

Hours before a ban on new TikTok downloads was set to take place, a federal judge granted an injunction. Here's what's next in the TikTok/President Trump saga:

  • TikTok now has more time to prepare to spin off into a new company before the government's next Nov. 12 deadline.
  • The judge's opinion will be released today. It was delayed so that both parties could redact any sensitive info.
  • The judge only ruled on the download ban. The rest of the order is still slated to go into effect Nov. 12.

Holiday shopping will look decidedly different this year as retailers shift plans to accommodate shoppers who will a) shop virtually this year and b) shop on a budget because of the economy. So what does that mean? Here's a few impacts:

This Startup Uses Deepfake Tech to Let Brands Create Video Sales Pitches at Scale

The technology now exists to send all of your customers personalized sales pitch...videos. Using deepfake tech, real people and a script, marketers could reach their entire email list with specific videos targeted to individualized users. Will it work? Bangalore-based Rephrase.ai says the videos have doubled clickthrough rates for marketing campaigns.
