This month, allow the arctic (or Antarctic!) tundra to speak to you. Will your work incorporate the sharp edges of stones and the smoothness of an impenetrable frozen surface? Maybe your piece will harness the sensation of solitude accompanying an expansive landscape. Or perhaps you’ll take the playful route; a pair of baby polar bears wrestling, a hawk soaring overhead, a penguin stumbling on its way to a snack. They say only the toughest plants and animals survive the harsh elements of an arct ic tundra. Will your work make it through?

The first tip is obvious: Picking up your beadwork can greatly improve your stitching tension. Holding the beads in the stitch you just added and the working thread where it exits the last bead will prevent the stitch from loosening up as you add the next stitch. Only let go of the working thread once the next stitch is completed, and then only to move your grasp down to the next stitch.

Easy amethyst and pearl bracelet
