Photos of the Week for the month of July

Other photos we featured this month included a stormy shot from Stuart Milliner, contrasted against a rainbow sky from Rene Wagner. And who could forget the smirking puffin, photo by Brent Wilson?

We choose a new photo every Monday to be our banner images on Facebook and Twitter, plus we share the picture on Instagram too!

From Michelle Valberg, Photographer-In-Residence

"I had thought it was a quiet morning on the lake until these loons starting having a territorial fight.  I was in my kayak and it appeared the loons were fishing and calm. Then all of a sudden they jumped out of the water and began this violent fight and it continued all the way down the lake.

Many don't know or realize how violent they are and can kill other birds that try to invade in their territory."

Michelle shot this on a Nikon Z6 with 500mmPF and 2x extender at Sharbot Lake, Ontario July 2020.

Photo Contest: What does home mean to you?

Community relocations are part of the story of what has and continues to shape Canada as a country. As part of our educational project on relocations in Canada, we want to know: what does home mean to you? We’re looking for photographs that capture your personal concept of home, be it the house you grew up in, a place you visit when you need to rest and recharge, a landmark that makes your community unique, or a person who represents comfort, hope and identity.

Submit an image and tell us the story behind it for a chance to win one of three cash prizes, including the grand prize of $1,000.
