SCRA accepts 3 new companies into SC Launch

SCRA has accepted three new client companies into its SC Launch entrepreneurial program. Charleston-based Wander, which created the Rayka social recommendation platform, was accepted, as were a cloud-based reporting platform from Cayce and a mobile equestrian app company from Aiken.

New cataract technology offered to Lowcountry patients

Carolina Eyecare Physicians ophthalmologist Dr. Kerry Solomon is the first doctor in the state to offer the RxSight Light Adjustable Lens, which can be adjusted to correct vision after it is implanted in cataract surgery.

Construction jobs up even as state struggles to find workers

According to the most recent analysis of Bureau of Labor Statistics data, Charleston saw a 4% change from December 2018 to December 2019, adding 800 jobs over the 12 months, for a ranking of 105th in the country. Construction employment grew in nearly 60% of metro areas in 2019.

Advance America adopts new corporate name

Spartanburg-based Advance America, which has nine Lowcountry locations, will now operate under a new corporate identity, Purpose Financial Inc. This change reflects the company's evolution into a family of brands offering a suite of consumer credit products, according to a news release.
