Colleges take precautions against COVID-19 threat

Charleston Southern University will transition to online instruction next week, and other Lowcountry colleges are taking precautions in response to the COVID-19 threat. 

Port volumes strong despite virus disruptions

The S.C. Ports Authority recorded the highest February cargo volumes and rail moves ever last month despite concerns that the new coronavirus could impact supply chains. Port leadership said they expect volumes to be down in March and April because of COVID-19, though and rebound in May and June would still allow the port to finish above its business plan.

Businesses react to St. Patrick’s Day festival cancellation

North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey has canceled the city’s St. Patrick’s Day block party and parade scheduled for Saturday as concerns about the new coronavirus continue to rise. Summey said the city will look to replace it with a different event this summer.
