PGA Championship delays ticket sales

Championship Director Scott Reid said because of the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak, the PGA Championship has extended registration for ticket sales until August. The tournament returns to The Ocean Course on Kiawah Island in May 2021.

MUSC makes drug discovery software publicly available

The Medical University of South Carolina co-developed the program with Hewlett Packard Enterprise and made it public in an attempt to accelerate the search for effective therapies against COVID-19. The program uses neural network architecture to estimate what drugs might be effective for specific diseases using a real-world data set containing millions of data points.

Volvo to reopen plant May 11

Volvo Cars is planning to reopen its Ridgeville plant on May 11, almost a month later than it initially planned. The company closed the production site on March 26 because of the coronavirus with plans to reopen April 14. Volvo extended the closure, however, to protect the health of employees. A company spokeswoman did not provide further details about the reopening plans. Volvo employs approximately 1,500 people at its Berkeley County plant.

S.C. unemployment claims drop for 2nd straight week

For the week ending April 25, 65,159 claims were filed, down 7,957 from the previous week. In the past six weeks, 406,889 claims have been filed, according to the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce.
