A night of music and poetry in support of Ukraine at the Southbank Centre

Here's a beautiful way for Londoners to show solidarity with the people of Ukraine and the capital's Ukrainian community. On Tuesday 22 March, the Southbank Centre hosts Slava Ukraini: a very special fundraiser organised in partnership with the Ukrainian Institute and supported by the British Council, featuring classical music, poetry readings and a few familiar faces.

The line-up includes a fantastic array of Ukrainian musicians and writers — more on those later — as well as London Contemporary Orchestra and renowned British actors Ben Whishaw, Jonathan Pryce and Juliet Stevenson, who'll read work by poet Ilya Kaminsky, screenwriter and playwright Lyuba Yakimchuk, and poet, essayist and translator Ostap Slyvynsky.

All net proceeds from Slava Ukraini ticket sales, and funds raised during the evening, will go to the Disasters Emergency Committee's Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal to help refugees fleeing war. Click below to get your £25 tickets straight away, or read on for a preview of the incredible Ukrainian artists performing on the night.

Operatic Magic

Slava Ukraini features a stunning performance by Kyiv-born baritone Yuriy Yurchuk (pictured left), who played Marcello in Puccini's La Boheme at the Royal Opera House last summer. He's joined by two talented mezzo sopranos: Kseniia Nikolaieva of the Jette Parker Young Artists Company and Karaviotis Prize-winner Rozanna Madylus.

Incredible Instrumentalists

Another highlight is Kharkiv-born pianist Dinara Klinton (pictured right), who has previously performed at Wigmore Hall, Berliner Philharmonie and Konzerthaus Berlin, as well as at Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall. There's also music from Rivne-born clarinettist and Royal Academy of Music student Stefan Bulyha.

Ukrainian Literature

As well as all that music, there's also the chance to celebrate some incredible Ukrainian writers. You'll hear from the likes of historian Dr Olesya Khromeychuk; poet, writer and essayist Serhiy Zhadan; and Andrey Kurkov, the author behind the bestselling satirical novel Death and the Penguin.
