Dear Readers,
It's Alyson this week, pinch-hitting for our EiC Alysia who I'm sure is really into sports slang. I can't wait until we're neighbors in Asheville this summer and she learns what a jock I am. 😀
Next week, The Rumpus will officially launch our 1st ever Membership drive. And, throughout the month of June, we'll be highlighting some of our favorite pieces from the archives, ramping up our new original fiction, sharing weekly Instagram Q&As with our editors, and more!
Also, starting in June, this (always free!) newsletter will come to you every other week instead of weekly. We're reserving our mid- and end of the month newsletters for monthly and annual Members. These will include special newsletter-only essays, Q&As, and advice from our editors, early calls for submissions, and more. So, if you're a Rumpus Member, you'll continue to find us in your inbox every Thursday. If you're not able to join at this time, you'll still hear from us twice a month. We hope you'll support us if/when you can.
In the meantime, see what's newly published this week, our next Book Club picks, and call for submissions below.
Finally, it's been a(nother) hard week for most of us. Please take care of yourself and others. -APS |
Just a reminder that we'll be opening up next week (June 1-30) for submissions on the theme of disability and education. Read the full call here. |

I am delighted to share our JULY Book Club picks. Subscribe by June 15th to receive these selections.
For our prose Book Club, we'll be getting meta and talking with Charles Baxter about WONDERLANDS, which is subtitled "essays on the life of literature." I first read Baxter's BURNING DOWN THE HOUSE in college, and I am so excited for this conversation.
Poetry Book Club will be reading the gorgeous collection O by Zeina Hashem Beck that features formal structures including triptychs and ghazals. A perfect, immersive summer book. |
