Lot 95: A set of twenty-three Spanish Civil War postcards in aid of the Republican cause
circa 1937

This 220+ lot sale includes several small but unusual private collections – such as a number of Victorian and Edwardian sword canes and even a gentleman’s sword umbrella! Items with provenance also feature strongly in the auction - highlight lots include the Second World War RAF flying helmet, goggles and oxygen mask worn by Wing Commander Sidney Patrick ‘Pat’ Daniels DSO*, DFC* on 87 operational sorties, together with a wonderful accumulation of photographs, postcards and medals relating to William ‘Jim’ John Ashman’s service during the Mexican Civil War and First World War. Elsewhere in the sale, there is a good mixture of badges, photograph albums, swords, obsolete calibre antique weaponry and more.

Lot 18 - RAF Wing Commander Sidney Patrick 'Pat' Daniels, D.S.O*, D.F.C* - The original flying headgear worn by Daniels on all 87 WW2 operations, including the disastrous Nuremberg Raid (30th - 31st March 1944).
Comprising RAF C-Type 1st pattern leather flying helmet, with G-type oxygen mask and Mk.VIII flying goggles mounted on a dummy display head with an inscribed plaque.

Lot 66 - A First World War Military Cross group comprising 1914-15 Star named to "13516 SJT. W.J. BATHURST., S. STAFF. R.", 1914-18 War Medal and Victory Medal, named to "Capt. W.J Bathurst" and Military Cross, unnamed as issued, in original case. (4)

Lot 177 - A Thomas Ketland & Co flintlock 12-bore travelling pistol, circa 1800, 5.5" barrel, faintly engraved 'Ketland', with Paktong mounts, trigger guard in the form of an acorn, the butt with a scallop shell and a shield-shaped escutcheon bearing initials 'J W', wooden ramrod, overall length 29cm.
