SOFT LANDING: An internal investigation found the former chief anesthesiologist at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans reported hours for work he didn’t perform while earning a six-figure salary, often while doing work for unrelated, paid gigs. Although an auditor wrote that the behavior appeared to amount to fraud, Alan Kaye moved on in 2019 to become the current provost of LSU's medical campus in Shreveport.
TRAGIC SHOOTING: The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a tragic shooting of a 4-year-old boy near Westwego Saturday night, which occurred when someone in the car with Jarion Walker and a sibling fired a gun, killing him.
TRANSIT TRANSITION: For the last few years, transit officials in Orleans and Jefferson parishes have been working to identify ways public transportation systems can be tweaked to shorten ride times and bring routes closer to where most people live. Jefferson became the first to implement its changes over the weekend.
