It happened in the pandemic. We got out more. We made more day trips. Now we do it every week. We get out.
We've stopped for gas in one-service-station towns, discovered ghost towns, state parks we didn't know existed, and pretty little streams with never another fisherperson. We hiked deep into the woods.
But you've got to eat. Before the pandemic, we would have stopped at a roadside cafe. Now we're often beyond cafes. We pack a lunch--sandwiches, fruit, cheeses, and treats. We use frozen "blue ice" to keep things cold with no ice melt to get things wet.
We bought a little soft-sided, insulated cooler that is no larger than a day pack--perfect for lunch and beverages. We keep a plastic box with picnic supplies and extra treats ready to go into the car. We even found a backpack with an insulated compartment to keep our sandwiches cold when we hike through the woods.
We're enjoying life--and each other--a little more.
