Dear John, Why all the hype about mindfulness in yoga? Cultivating presence and learning to be mindful during times of calm are superpowers to have during chaos. How do these practices on the mat translate to life off the mat? 🙏🏽 Tune in. Strive to make a new habit of being aware of the sights and sounds around you. Try this: While walking to work or your car, look around at the scenery and listen to nature or the sounds of the city (instead of the latest Instagram reels). ❤️ Be present. Set an intention to show up with an open, curious and discerning mind. Try this: Rather than multitasking during lunch, step away from the screens and focus on the taste and texture of your food. ✨ Accept yourself. It’s easy to find flaws in yourself and your endeavours, to criticise the way you are and the things you do. Try this: Treat yourself the way you would treat a dear friend. Give yourself a compliment. Tell yourself, “I love you.” 🦋 Breathe consciously. One of the most overlooked and simple things you can do to invoke presence (and many other benefits) is focus on your breathing. Try this: Set a timer for five minutes. Inhale for a count of three, exhale for six. Our brand new Mindful Morning Yoga program started last week but it’s not too late to join us! Sign up for email alerts to fully engage in the fun and receive an invitation to my live class on July 24th! Love, Esther and the team. |
