Three-Row EV9 Sets the Borders of Kia's Electric Empire

If you’re looking to buy an electric vehicle, there is one automotive group that stands out from the pack in terms of range, style, price and drive: Hyundai, which includes adjacent brands Kia and Genesis. Their secret sauce? All of them utilize a shared EV platform called the E-GMP.

This technology is used in the Kia EV6, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, and the Genesis GV60, all of which we’ve personally reviewed and recommended highly. (If you want corroboration, we’ve also talked to EV buyers who own a couple of these models.) But all of these cars max out at five passengers. What’s a person with a big family (or lots and lots of gear) to do?

Enter: The Kia EV9, a three-row electric SUV based on the same E-GMP platform. Is this the super-sized EV America has been waiting for? Our automotive expert Benjamin Hunting recently got behind the wheel to find out.

Last week, we asked the dads out there what are the best kind of Father's Day gifts to receive. Here's what you said:

  • 14% of you said a high-end timepiece.
  • 20% of you are all about gadgets.
  • 31% of you said some goddamn peace and quiet.
  • And 36% of you said a nicely prepared meal.

How to Enjoy the Quiet Side of Cabo

There’s a peaceful and purposely slow side to Los Cabos, primarily found in the area known as San José del Cabo and its surrounding properties. Here, about 20 miles from the rowdiness of Cabo San Lucas, we discovered a different and restful energy.

It wasn’t necessarily “silent” but the vibe was far more relaxed. We indulged in farm-to-table dining, mezcal tastings, boating adventures and long walks. It was an area built for couples and adulting — a respite from the Cabo norm, at least as seen from this side of the border.

The Star Recruit Who Fought Depression to Find His Purpose

This article was originally published on the Substack Seth Davis Writes Again and appears in InsideHook courtesy of Seth Davis, longtime NCAA basketball sportswriter and broadcaster.

It’s a searing and salient profile of former Syracuse guard Kaleb Joseph, who saw his anxiety and depression rise as his performance and playing time cratered in the 2015-16 season. Davis charts Joseph’s journey from star recruit to rock bottom, spotlighting crucial, yet underreported questions that so many athletes must face: What if the dream dissolves? Who am I? What’s left?

He turned on the shower so no one could hear him sobbing.

It was March of 2016. Syracuse, which had started the NCAA tournament as a No. 10 seed, was in the midst of an unlikely run to the Final Four. It was supposed to be Kaleb Joseph’s dream come true, but instead it was his worst nightmare. The team was winning, but he wasn’t playing. He was disappointed, shocked, confused, and hurt. Most of all, he was ashamed.

How to Use Green Garlic, Late Spring’s Most Prized Ingredient

One of the absolute best parts of summer is seeing the farmers market come alive with all of its vibrant produce. Sure, we relish in winter’s root vegetables, citrus and chicories, but it’s hard to beat the strawberries of early summer, July’s eggplant and green beans, and, of course, August and September’s plump, flavorful tomatoes. The only thing that’s sometimes missing from a shopping trip is a bit of inspiration.

So for the duration of summer (for the sake of this series, that means June through August), InsideHook is featuring a piece of produce at its peak for each of the 13 weeks. We chose the Northeast as our barometer because it experiences four true seasons, and the experts at Natoora are helping us select which produce to feature throughout.

How Producer Michael Mauldin Is Working to Preserve Black Music’s Legacy

The name Michael Mauldin might not be on the tip of your tongue when you think of Black music icons, but you do know many of the musical artists whose careers he helped forge and nurture as the President of Columbia Records Black Music division a few decades ago.

Ever heard of Nas? The Fugees? How about Alica Keys or Beyoncé? Yeah, we thought so.

These days, Mauldin has taken up a new cause: to better educate music listeners about the history of Black music through the efforts of the Black American Music Association.
