Tony Robbins has been accused of sexually assaulting a high schooler at summer camp

Earlier this year, BuzzFeed News published a series of investigations revealing how multiple former staffers and fans have accused the self-help guru Tony Robbins of sexual misconduct over three decades. Ten women have said Robbins groped them, exposed himself, or sexually harassed them while they were at his seminars or working for him. He has denied every allegation and accused BuzzFeed News of “flat-out lying.”

This week, our series continues with a new entry: in the summer of 1985, Robbins arrived at an elite summer camp in Southern California as star speaker. He left with one accuser, two eyewitnesses, and dozens of others who would remember the day's dark turn for decades.

In a 2,400-word account provided through her lawyers, Elle — who was younger than 18 at the time — said Robbins forced himself upon her, kissing her and groping her breasts in a prolonged sexual assault.

Nine other former campers and staffers said they were told directly about an inappropriate incident either by the alleged victim or by Robbins himself.

K-pop star Goo Hara has died at 28. Goo, who for years performed in girl group Kara before launching a solo career, was found dead in her home on Sunday. Police in Seoul said the cause was under investigation.

Hundreds of climate change protesters delayed the Harvard-Yale football game by running onto the field. About 150 students and alumni from both schools rushed the field during the halftime show, delaying the event for more than 30 minutes as police scrambled to remove them.

Mister Rogers and the dark abyss of the adult soul

I haven’t yet seen A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood, the movie about Mister Rogers starring Tom Hanks, but I am excited for it.

If Mister Rogers meant something to you and your childhood (and maybe adulthood!), you’ll love this from Anne Helen Petersen on the film and all the ways we’ve programmed our feelings out of adulthood: “Rogers dedicated his life and decades of programming to helping children actually feel their feelings. Wallow in them, express them, process them. And adulthood, for most of us, is about acquiring the skills to feel no feelings at all. Feelings are distracting, inefficient, unoptimizable, unprofessional — childlike.”

Because the piece so beautifully touches on how Rogers changes us, here’s another quote: “That’s what Mister Rogers, in documentary or reenactment, does to adults: He brings us back to the openheartedness of childhood, when we lacked the skill to deflect, or compartmentalize, or resort to work.
