Meta’s new AI model can turn text into 3D images in under a minute

The technology could prove transformational across a number of creative disciplines, from game and film effects to VR applications

Meta has introduced its new "3D Gen" AI model, a "state-of-the-art, fast pipeline" capable of transforming input text into high-fidelity 3D images in about 30 seconds.

The system is also able to apply new textures and skins to both AI-generated and artist-produced images using text prompts, Digital Trends reported. With the output content, users can also refine the existing model texture or replace it with something new, both via text prompts, in a process taking about 20 seconds.

Meta’s system is still under development, but it’s set to give users the ability to not only create but also edit 3D-generated content both quickly and intuitively, drastically lowering the barrier to entry for such pursuits ...

Apple leak confirms four iPhone 16 models with same A18 chip

It should mean that all the new phones will be able to access the Apple Intelligence features debuting with iOS 18

Apple appears to be taking a different approach with the chips for the iPhone 16, which is coming this fall, MacRumors reported.

While last year’s iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus came with the A16 Bionic chip, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max featured the A17 Pro. But according to recently discovered Apple code, all four iPhone 16 models are set to be powered by the same chip, the A18.

Apple could still differentiate between the standard models and the Pro models by giving the chips separate A18 and A18 Pro names and making the latter more powerful, MacRumors noted ...

LG rolls out its gamer-friendly M4 wireless OLED TV

LG's new wireless TV will likely appeal to gamers thanks to its 144Hz support and smaller, more affordable display

The new LG OLED evo M4 began its official rollout on July 1, Digital Trends reported.

The new TV comes with two big changes that could grab the attention of gamers. The first is the addition of 4K video at 144Hz — great for gamers who enjoy playing high-frame-rate titles. At 144Hz, these games are going to look even smoother than they did on the OLED evo M3, which topped out at 4K/120Hz. But take note: The biggest M4 — the 97-inch model — is still limited to 4K/120Hz.

The other big change regards size, as the M4 is now the first wireless OLED TV you can buy in a 65-inch screen size, making it the smallest (and most affordable) wireless OLED TV so far ...

Despicable Me 4 set to dominate the Fourth of July box office

Despicable Me 4 arrives on the heels of another hit animation, Inside Out 2

Despicable Me 4 is set to own the box office this Fourth of July weekend, with the popular franchise forecast to rake in as much as $120 million in North America over the five-day holiday, Gazettely reported.

A performance like that would make it the second-best North American opening of the summer, trailing only behind Disney/Pixar’s Inside Out 2, which opened to $154.2 million in mid-June.

Despicable Me 4 doesn’t currently have a great rating on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb (it's already showing in some international markets), though Gazettely noted that the franchise has shown a trend where lower critical ratings often correlate with higher box office returns ...

Xbox Live back in the game after six-hour outage

Features that require sign-in, including most games, apps, and social activity, were inaccessible

Xbox Live suffered a major outage on Tuesday that prevented gamers from logging into their Xbox profile to play games online, Digital Trends reported. The downtime lasted around six hours, with the Xbox Support account on X (formerly Twitter) posting messages every few hours to let everyone know its team was on it.

“Our investigation is taking longer than expected, thank you for your patience and reports!” one message read, followed a couple of hours later by: “Investigation continues into issues impacting users ability to sign in to Xbox Live and services. Thank you for your patience while our engineers work.”

Eventually, at around 9 p.m. ET, the issue appeared to have been resolved, though Xbox owner Microsoft has yet to explain the cause ...
