There are 13 Louisiana parishes that are now among the 50 U.S. counties with the highest per-capita coronavirus death rates.

While experts say it's too early to pinpoint exactly why the southern state has been hit hard by the virus, there are a handful of reasons that they agree on.

Of the 13 parishes, St. John the Baptist Parish has the highest per-capita death rate in the nation.
