The Pentagon is buying 178 F-35 engines for $4.4 billion, which would imply a unit cost of $24.6 million, but as the announcement also includes long-lead items and spares, the actual unit cost of these 178 engines cannot be determined -- probably not by coincidence. (P&W photo)
