The word "patter" comes to mind when describing Glaswegian; one is judged, rightly, by the quality of one's patter in this city. Prophetic, amphibious, reverberating, the language reflects its people, its weather. Rain, more rain. Bashō had a knack for this: language jumping into sound and season. The experience is epiphanic; I attempt to represent it, first, in my translation of the ubiquitous haiku; and, second, in an overheard rambling at a Glasgow bus stop.

"Ten Questions for Robyn Schiff"

"Information Desk takes place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which holds over a million objects created over a span of about five thousand years. The poem derives its energy wandering the corridors there and encountering works of art. Deciding which objects to attend to was an exciting challenge."

What Sparks Poetry:
Jacob Sheetz-Willard on Srikanth Reddy's Voyager

"Reading Reddy's collection, for me, has a similar effect. In repeating Waldheim's language but stripping back the rhetoric, he insists on a distinction between sound and significance—what's said and what we can intuit beneath the public performance of language. His poetry offers a lesson in the imaginative potential of erasure and the politics of silence."
