A partnership between the civil office of fraud enforcement and the criminal investigation unit, the operation aims to “root out tax evasion from cryptocurrency owners."
The IRS and these specialists will analyze “blockchain and de-anonymizing [cryptocurrency] transactions,” in order to “track, find, and work to seize crypto in both a civil and a criminal setting.”
Since Tesla announced the company held $1.5 billion in Bitcoin on its balance sheet during the first week of February, the company’s stocks have dropped over 30%.
Some believe shareholders would be “very supportive” if the company announced it would sell the Bitcoin, and offer a stock buyback option.
