A Very TOONie MoCCA MoCCA Arts Festival in New York broke records with 7,000 visitors this weekend! And deep in the thick of it, across from the Wacom tablets and next to Kutztown University, sat TOON & The Gang – authors James Sturm, Ben Nadler, Kevin McCloskey, Frank Cammuso, Dean Haspiel, Art Spiegelman, and of course, Ivan Brunetti celebrating the recent publication of Comics: Easy As ABC . At McNally Jackson, Ivan flipped through Comics: Easy As ABC , and taught the kiddos about cartooning... “What I love about cartooning is you can make new rules as you go..“ "As long as someone can tell what it is, it’s a good cartoon!" Oh, and Art Spiegelman came by! Here's Ivan and Art by the TOON window display (currently on view at McNally on Prince Street)! 🤩🤩🤩 Meanwhile, back at MoCCA: Dean Haspiel signed copies of Mo and Jo Fighting Together Forever ... Which they couldn't put down! Kevin McCloskey signed books and thought, hey, something's not right here. Ben Nadler and James Sturm holding proud their TOONBooks. Looking good, guys! James Sturm and Ivan Brunetti in the "Comics and the Teaching Artist" panel on Sunday. James was also spoke about "The Personal and the Political" on Saturday. And then... MoCCA got an early peek at The White Snake! Our hardcovers ran out fast! Pictured from Left: Ivan Brunetti, Francoise Mouly, James Sturm, and Frank Cammuso. Surprise! It's Françoise! She came to MoCCA after a redeye flight from California, where she spoke at the AIGA Design Conference. She caught the "Comics and the Teaching Artist" panel, and got to enjoy the last of the festival. And then she biked away... And as if that wasn't enough...Ivan Brunetti and Ben Nadler braved the rain and NYC subway system to visit some of our favorite NYC indie bookstores. Shout out to Jason Kincade for making it all happen. Visit these stores for signed books! Prospect Lefferts Gardens Location Fort Greene Location To everyone who came out and to our colorful and inspiring co-presenters: Thank you! We can't wait to see you again next year! |
