So far this week, we've covered a lot of ground and even introduced a new writer, Megan Shoup. Megan was a 2022 finalist in Best Ball Mania 3 on Underdog Fantasy, which is one of the biggest Best Ball competitions in the world. For context, Megan emerged from a field of 470,000 entries to finish inside the top 300.
Our FFT team is excited to have her expertise on hand. Megan wasted no time making her presence felt as she unveiled her half-PPR Best Ball rankings for 2024 over on SportsLine. She also announced her top target in Best Ball drafts for this season. Megan is just getting started, so make sure to be on the lookout for her thoughts on rookies such as Jonathon Brooks and other under-the-radar picks that could end up being league-winners.
Meanwhile, Dave Richard organized another #AskFFT Fan mock draft, where he observed a rise in the draft stock of several running backs. While there were few surprises, some recurring patterns emerged that Fantasy managers may want to take note of.
In the Best Ball Fantasy Football format, the best lineup is automatically chosen for each team. At the conclusion of each week, the highest-scoring players are automatically placed into the starting lineup. In this write-up, Megan reveals why a certain quarterback is deserving of the top spot and why he should not be overlooked in Best Ball drafts. As it stands, this particular quarterbacks is Megan's QB7 in her 2024 Best Ball top 250 rankings.
Megan's top quarterback pick for this season ranked third in total Fantasy points (353), fourth in Fantasy points per game (20.7, 8-game min.), third in passing yards (4,516), and first in passing touchdowns (36). If that doesn't signify value, I'm not sure what does. For more info on Megan's top Best Ball target, be sure to give her latest write-up a read.
In the second installment of the #AskFFT Fan mock draft, Dave observed a growing interest in three running backs. Jonathan Taylor and Saquon Barkley were both chosen in Round 1, while Derrick Henry was picked 14th, just before Jahmyr Gibbs. Interestingly, Zamir White went within the top 50 picks. Fantasy managers seem to recognize that there's no one on the Raiders roster to compete with him for lion's share of carries. If he stays healthy and maintains his form from last year, he's poised for a breakout season.
Fantasy managers should pay attention to the increasing number of wide receivers drafted in Round 1. Typically, seven to eight wideouts are selected in the first round of one-QB leagues. While Marvin Harrison Jr. hasn't been picked in Round 1 yet, he consistently ranks as a top-20 pick in our mocks. If you're confident in his potential for his rookie season, consider selecting him in that range.
