Tornadoes, hail possible in area Tuesday

with Kelly P. Kissel | Metro editor

Here are some of our top headlines today:

Weather woes Tuesday

Tornadoes, high winds and hail are possible in southern Louisiana tomorrow. Since last week, the Storm Prediction Center has been forecasting a bout of bad weather in the region, and as a front approaches we're getting a better look at what's expected.

New Orleans vaccine mandate dropped

New Orleans is dropping its vaccine-or-test mandate imposed at bars, restaurants and other public places. The regulation was put in place to combat the coronavirus, and left up after Mardi Gras to guard against a surge fueled by the omicron variant.

City officials say they welcome the "critical and welcome milestone" with transmission levels at historically low levels.

Should death give a criminal a clean slate

Prosecutors in Baton Rouge are hoping the state Supreme Court tosses out a provision in the law that gives a clean slate to convicted people if they die while an appeal is pending. An appeals court tossed the conviction of a serial killer who was found dead in his cell last year two days after arriving at Angola. Other states have dropped the doctrine of "abatement ab initio," or "abatement from the beginning."

We hope your week is off to a great start.
