| Tiff Macklem, governor of the Bank of Canada, came in at No. 2 in our ranking of the most influential Torontonians of 2023. The country’s most prominent banker has spent the year beating back inflation and the threat of a recession using stubbornly aggressive interest hikes—and it seems to be working. Since last summer, the inflation rate dropped from 8.1 per cent to just under four, closer to Macklem’s goal of two per cent. Read more here. |
