Ryan Murphy is one of Hollywood’s most prolific producers with a string of hits that include “Glee,” “American Horror Story” and “Pose.” The six-time Emmy winner is also a serial buyer, renovator and seller of architecturally significant properties from coast to coast. In Los Angeles, Murphy has hung an almost $34 million price tag on what’s known as the Brown House, a fabulously restored and updated Bel Air home designed in 1955 by pioneering modernist architect Richard Neutra. Before Murphy scooped the place up in late 2022, the long and linear home and poolside guesthouse had previously been owned for about two decades by fashion designer Tom Ford and very briefly by Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi. And in Boston’s historic Back Bay neighborhood, venture capitalist Kevin Starr is seeking $30 million for a late 19th-century row house that’s been done over with technicolor interiors that include a cobalt blue living room with a back-lit onyx bar and polished marble fireplace.
