Ghost Mail in its new form has been around for just over a week. I'm having plenty of fun with it and I hope you are enjoying it too!
As a reminder, if you are looking for content that is similar in nature to the brief company updates that I wrote in InceConnect each day, you can read Ghost Bites on the website every day. In that article, I cover every important piece of news on the JSE in sufficient detail to get you up to speed.
I also write at least one feature article each day, usually covering a really important deal or results announcement. In today's Ghost Mail, I chose to write on Transaction Capital as my favourite company on the JSE and a core part of my portfolio. Read about the company's int erim results at this link.
Those of you who moved across from my weekly Ghost Mail may be missing the long-form pieces that I would write in that publication. At least once a week and usually on a Tuesday, I'll be releasing an article on the website that delivers the same style of insights you used to enjoy in that newsletter. Earlier this week for example, I shared my ever-popular article on emigration and how to objectively analyse the decision to go or stay.
As you've noticed, we are lucky enough to get daily insights into the rand, the dollar and other macroec onomic indicators and commodity movements from the team at TreasuryONE. Today's update is from Wichard Cilliers, Head of Market Risk at TreasuryONE:
"After breaking below the R16.00 handle, we saw the rand trade in a fairly narrow range for the most part of yesterday. Hovering in the mid-R15.90s, the inflation data came out at 5.9% for April, the same as March. This solidified the expectation that we could see the SARB hike by 50bps on Thursday. This hike would only complement their usual conservative stance to move in line with what the US Fed did earlier this month. Brent Crude still trades at elevated levels and is sitting at $112 per barrel as there is still lingering concern over Russia's supply to the world and especially Europe."
Keep an eye out for the interest rate decision today. For a reminder of the considerations that go into this decision for the Monetary Policy Committee, refer to this article by TreasuryONE.
With another Magic Markets episode being released today, make sure you're up to date by listening to Episode 75. We welcomed Justine Brophy from AnBro Capital Investments to the show to talk about growth stocks and some particularly interesting ideas in the biotech space. There's much to learn here, as ever. Listen to it at this link.
Have a great day!
