Since 2000, many hospitals have changed their peer review approach, with estimates that more than 50% now use the multispecialty model. Having assisted many organizations with this transformation, I wanted to find out whether these efforts were useful and sustainable.

1. Credibility: Without this, all else is for naught. It is absolutely essential that a leader is credible and trustworthy in order to lead others. The effective leader leads by example, by demonstrating a life lived with honesty and integrity. The leader earns the right to have responsibility for others. True authority is born not from a title or a position on the organization chart, but rather from respect for the character and trustworthiness of the person who leads.
