TRB Webinar: Evaluating Tack Coat Materials Durability in Asphalt Pavements The performance of an asphalt mixture overlay depends on the interface bond strength between the newly constructed asphalt mixture lift and the underlying pavement layers. TRB will host a webinar on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 from 2:00-3:30 PM Eastern that will discuss the use of tack coat materials in asphalt pavements. A tack coat typically consists of emulsified asphalt, and is commonly used to achieve the necessary bonding between pavement layers. Tack coats can also ensure pavement layers behave as a monolithic system that withstands traffic and environmental stresses. Presenters will identify several factors that may affect bond performance, including tack coat material type, tack coat application rate, pavement surface type, temperature, and construction site conditions. They will also discuss test development, laboratory evaluation, and field validation of various tack coat materials. This webinar is sponsored by the TRB Standing Committee on Asphalt Mixture Evaluation and Performance. It also features research from NCHRP Research Report 712: Optimization of Tack Coat for HMA Replacement and NCHRP Report 878: Validation of the Louisiana Interlayer Shear Strength Test for Tack Coat. Some registrants will need to pay $95 to attend this webinar. Sign into MyTRB.org to view registration information.

Professional engineers (PEs) who register and attend the entire webinar as an individual will be awarded 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs). TRBs webinar program awards PDH credits only to the registered individual, and not to other members of a group that view the webinar together. To be eligible for the credits, individuals must remain signed in for the entire webinar, including for any question and answer session following the presentations. Please check with your licensing board to ensure that TRB webinar PDHs are approved by your board. TRB will report credits earned to the Registered Continuing Education Program (RCEP). Complaints about registered providers may be sent to RCEP, 1015 15th Street, NW, 8th Floor, Washington, D.C., 20005. Registration questions? Contact Reggie Gillum. |
