Does your organization know how to certify and validate pavement surface condition data based on mapping sensor technologies? TRB will conduct a webinar on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Eastern to discuss challenges and solutions from actual pavement condition projects. In pavement management systems, accurate and precise condition data are essential for making decisions about maintenance and rehabilitation projects. Presenters will identify how to reconcile differences between old and new data collection technologies and describe how to develop performance prediction models. They will also explore different certification and validation methods, including a ground reference survey, fully automated surveys, and transverse profile.

This webinar was organized by the TRB Standing Committee on Pavement Management Systems and the Standing Committee on Pavement Condition Evaluation.

Some registrants will need to pay $95 to attend this webinar. Sign into MyTRB.org to view registration information.

Webinar agenda and presenters

  1. State of the practice of pavement condition data: Andy Mergenmeier, U.S Federal Highway Administration
  2. Calibration and validation of highway and street distresses: Doug Frith, Quality Engineering Solutions
  3. Airfield distresses: Monty Wade, Applied Pavement Technology
  4. Transverse profile: John Ferris, Virginia Tech University
  5. Questions and answers: Moderated by Nima Kargah-Ostadi, iEngineering Corporation

The first 90 minutes of the webinar will be for presentations and the final 30 minutes will be reserved for audience questions.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify current practices for certification and validation of pavement condition data using advanced mapping sensor technology
  2. Discuss limitations of various technologies and list solutions to overcome limitations
  3. Make pavement management decisions regarding data quality considerations
  4. List sources available for further investigation and knowledge acquisition on these topics

Professional Development Hour Information

Professional engineers (PEs) who register and attend the entire webinar as an individual will be awarded 2.0 Professional Development Hours (PDHs). TRBs webinar program awards PDH credits only to the registered individual, and not to other members of a group that view the webinar together. To be eligible for the credits, individuals must remain signed in for the entire webinar, including for any question and answer session following the presentations.

Pre-registration is required. Once the webinar starts, you will be unable to register. Individuals that are registered for a webinar but do not receive their confirmation emails due to their organizations internal firewalls should contact the TRB Helpdesk for assistance in signing in.

Please check with your licensing board to ensure that TRB webinar PDHs are approved by your board.

TRB will report credits earned to the Registered Continuing Education Program (RCEP). Complaints about registered providers may be sent to RCEP, 1015 15th Street, NW, 8th Floor, Washington, D.C., 20005.
