Pavements occupy valuable real estate, and there is a need to move beyond simply designing pavements for their traditional purpose of carrying traffic loads. Smart pavements allow for real-time sensing applications, and multifunctional pavements can serve multiple roles within larger infrastructure systems, including energy harvesting and stormwater management. TRB will conduct a webinar on Thursday, November 19, 2020 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM Eastern that will illustrate how to design pavements to be smart and multifunctional. Presenters will describe the opportunities for reducing the cost of maintaining and restoring these functionalities through application of the rapidly increasing capabilities and decreasing costs of sensors, data acquisition and storage, and decision-support using sensor data. They will also discuss how to create and maintain communicative pavements.

Professional engineers (PEs) who register and attend the entire webinar as an individual will be awarded 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs). TRBs webinar program awards PDH credits only to the registered individual, and not to other members of a group that view the webinar together. To be eligible for the credits, individuals must remain signed in for the entire webinar, including for any question and answer session following the presentations.
