Often, advanced sensor technologies can assess highway bridge infrastructure. TRB will host a webinar on Monday, February 22, 2021 from 2:00-3:30 PM Eastern to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning (DL) may be used to predict the deterioration of bridges. Presenters will discuss recent case studies related to the application of AI in integrating highway data to better explain and predict system performance. They will also identify how AI and DL may improve sensor signal data, and explain how these technologies can provide support design, operations, and management of highway systems.

This webinar was organized by the TRB Standing Committee on Testing and Evaluation of Transportation Structures.

Some registrants will need to pay $95 to attend this webinar. Sign into MyTRB.org to view registration information.

Webinar agenda and presenters

  1. Introduction to AI and DL: Hoda Azari, Federal Highway Administration
  2. AI in highway asset management: Devin Harris, University of Virginia
  3. Emerging sensing and analytical technologies: Nora El-Gohary, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
  4. Future applications of AI: Shamim Pakzad, Lehigh University

Learning Objectives

At the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify current applications of AI in highway asset management
  2. Identify emerging sensing and analytical technologies
  3. Discuss future applications of AI in highway asset management

Professional Development Hour Information

Professional engineers (PEs) who register and attend the entire webinar as an individual will be awarded 1.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs). TRBs webinar program awards PDH credits only to the registered individual, and not to other members of a group that view the webinar together. To be eligible for the credits, individuals must remain signed in for the entire webinar, including for any question and answer session following the presentations.

Please check with your licensing board to ensure that TRB webinar PDHs are approved by your board.

TRB will report credits earned to the Registered Continuing Education Program (RCEP). Complaints about registered providers may be sent to RCEP, 1015 15th Street, NW, 8th Floor, Washington, D.C., 20005.
