Our Intense Shamanic Immersion
The weeklong shamanic immersion Maeikisala and I did in Costa Rica Feb. 17-24 was profoundly transformational! My routine daily consciousness has shifted dramatically, and I think this wonderful change is permanent ... at least until the next upgrade!
While we did enjoy some relaxation time on a gorgeous beach with wonderful waves, the overall experience was extremely intense and frequently challenging ... as any meaningful shamanic work tends to be. So I guess we'll have to take an actual vacation some other time. ;-)

 Recommended Why Does He Do That? Inside the Minds of Angry and Controlling Men, by Lundy Bancroft
Several clients of mine, as well as a couple I know well, have had challenging experiences with partner abuse. The man I know doesn't fit the stereotype of an abusive partner at all. But, as I learned by reading this extraordinary book, most abusers are men you might never suspect of perpetrating such cruelty.
Bancroft is a true authority on this subject. Has over 25 years of experience in the fields of abuse, trauma, and recovery. He has published five books, including this bestseller, and has worked with over 1000 abusive men in his counseling groups. He helped me understand how a man I otherwise respect could be capable of perpetrating such horrors upon his partner.
I can't say I enjoyed reading this book, although it's very well written, due to the difficult subject matter. But I needed to understand what was going on with my clients and these people I love, and Bancroft gave me many important insights.
If you're in an abusive partnership, or know someone who is, this book will help you understand how the mind of an abusive man works ... and how an abused woman can deal with this extraordinarily challenging situation.
