Happy Tuesday, everyone! Although it wasn't exactly a happy Tuesday for managers who have already drafted and made the decision to buy into the upside of Guardians SP Triston McKenzie . We got the news late Monday night that McKenzie will likely miss eight weeks after being diagnosed with a strain of the teres major muscle (right shoulder). A shoulder injury can be tricky, so there's no guarantee he'll be back after eight weeks, but for now, McKenzie will be shut down from throwing for two weeks.
The immediate Fantasy result of the McKenzie injury is that Hunter Gaddis will take a spot in the Guardians rotation. Gaddis will now transition from the long reliever role to the rotation. Although he's just 25, it's hard to envision Gaddis having much of a Fantasy impact in anything but AL-only formats. He will make his 2023 debut on Friday on the road against the Mariners.
We'll dive into a few more notables below before breaking into Scott White's sleeper picks -- hitters and pitchers -- for Week 1.
Also, if you still have drafts coming up, make sure you didn't miss out on The Fantasy Baseball Today Printable Draft Guide. It's absolutely, 100% FREE.

Others News and Notes
  • Cubs 2B/SS Nico Hoerner agreed to terms with Chicago on a three-year, $35 million contract. His fielding alone will keep him in the lineup everyday and Hoerner offers definite sleeper potential as a middle infielder who probably hasn't risen as much this draft season as he should. Hoerned ripped off 10 homers, 55 RBI and 20 steals while batting .282 through 517 plate appearances in 2022.
  • The Orioles have officially Oriole'd. SP Grayson Rodriguez will not make the opening rotation. Rodriguez struggled this spring but is arguably the best pitching prospect in baseball.
  • Cubs 3B Christopher Morel will not make the opening day roster. This is a shame as Morel was uber-productive for a stretch in 2022, but the Cubs clearly prefer the 23-year-old infielder to get regular at bats and that will come at Triple-A Iowa.
  • Cubs SP Jameson Taillon is someone you should add to the back end of your benches. He's looked phenomenal this spring and added to that on Monday when he racked up five strikeouts through five shutout innings. He totaled a 23:0 strikeout to walk ratio this spring.
  • Angels 1B Jared Walsh will begin the season on the IL while dealing with headaches and insomnia. The expectation is that he will rejoin the Angles at some point in the middle of April.
Week 1 Sleeper Hitters
Scott White's weekly sleeper picks are some of the best weekly content we've got going. You can find ALL of his sleeper hitter picks for Week 1 here.
A few standouts include:
Jake Fraley, OF, Reds: "With no lefties on tap for a three-game series against the Pirates , Jake Fraley is a good bet to start every game in the park that helped him unlock his power stroke last season. He also flashed plenty of speed this spring."
Jared Kelenic, OF, Mariners: "The Guardians are trotting out four righties this week, and of them, only Shane Bieber is a real threat. It improves the odds of Jarred Kelenic carrying over the momentum from spring training."
Michael Massey, 2B, Royals: "The Twins are running some decent pitchers out there for their three-game series against the Royals, but they're all righties, which works to the left-handed-hitting Michael Massey's advantage. He showed exciting potential this spring.
Prospects To Consider Stashing Now
Yesterday, we discussed top prospects who DID make the opening day roster. Chris Towers broke them down as well here. However, here's a few top prospects who didn't make the opening day roster and therefore might be easier to stash on your benched. Reminder: Final bench slots should always be reserved for high-upside prospects.
From Chris: "Elly De La Cruz, SS, Reds  – De La Cruz was a long shot to make the team this spring, but a hamstring injury will also now delay the start of his Triple-A season. He's one of the most exciting prospects in the game, coming off a 28-homer, 47-steal showing in 121 games between High A and Double-A, and De La Cruz could be an impact bat in the majors as soon as this summer if he gets healthy. He's tougher to stash because the timeline is probably more like June or July at the earliest, but he needs to be on your radar."
From Chris: "Christian Encarnacion-Strand, 3B, Reds – Encarnacion-Strand started to get some hype a few weeks back, but he was ultimately sent back to Triple-A camp, where he apparently suffered a back injury that will also delay the start of his season in the minors. Encarnacion-Strand hit .304/.368/.587 between two minor-league levels after joining the Reds from the Twins, and he could get a shot at either infield corner spot, depending on  Joey Votto's health and Spencer Steer's production."
From Chris: "Ben Joyce, RP, Angels – Joyce was a spring riser for me, and on Monday's Fantasy Baseball Today podcast , I dropped a bold prediction: He's going to end up leading the Angels in saves this season. He had six walks in 6.2 innings in the spring, so he has work to do for sure. But given how mediocre the Angels other closer options are – Jimmy Herget and Carlos Estevez  seem like the best bets right now – I think Joyce will get an opportunity sooner rather than later. He's probably not worth stashing, but I'll be watching him closely."
Week 1 Sleeper Pitchers
You can find all of Scott's sleeper pitchers here. These are some of my favorite sleepers to stream for multiple starts.
Tyler Anderson, SP, Angels: "Despite going 15-5 with a 2.57 ERA and 1.00 WHIP last year, Tyler Anderson clearly has his detractors. Even they would warm up to using him against the Athletics' Triple-A-caliber lineup this week."
Graham Ashcraft, SP, Reds: "Already armed with a 100 mph cutter, Graham Ashcraft debuted a new slider grip this spring and saw his strikeout rate explode. Pitching against the Pirates should limit the home run threat even at his home park."
Jared Schuster, SP, Braves: "With a deceptive delivery and impressive changeup, Jared Shuster beat out highly favored pitchers like Ian Anderson and Bryce Elder for a rotation spot this spring. The Nationals should make for an easy introduction to the big leagues."
